I just got back from doing errands on my bike which left me with a “biker’s high”. After tucking my bike away, I grabbed my trash & headed to the dumpster. BTW: I think, the trash bag toss has potential as a sport.
Anyway, as I walked down the sidewalk, I noticed my elderly neighbor struggling with a big bag of trash. Thus, I held out my small bag to her & relieved her of her heavy bag.
Besides greeting each other, we aren’t able to communicate much because her English & my Spanish are limited. After tossing our bags in the dumpster, I was pleasantly surprised when she put her arm around me to give me a hug saying, “Gracias, seƱora.”
Definitely gave me a “helper’s high” while reminding me to be an opportunist like these lyrics encourage us to do:
“reach out & touch somebody’s hand; make this world a better place if you can”…
