I consider myself to be a physical Iowa farm girl even though we moved off the farm when I was 13 due to my dad’s father’s passing. I’m number 5 in a line-up of 7 girls. I feel fortunate to have always been action oriented as I initially tried to keep up with my older sisters, matured into chores, and then added sports. I wanted to be a physical education teacher, but a brotherly friend told me I didn’t have enough muscles so when I met with the high school guidance counselor I said I wanted to be a geologist. This dates me, but he said, “That’s not a woman’s field. Here, apply for this Dietetic scholarship.” I got the scholarship and went on to get a BS in Dietetics & a BS in Community Nutrition from Iowa State University. I later pursued my MBA from the University of St. Thomas where I researched the economic benefits of wellness programs.
I’ve continued to build my background in the field of healthy lifestyles & wellness to incorporate personal training as well as life coaching. In a sense, I feel that I’ve completed the circle back to when I wanted to be a physical education teacher.
My life’s journey has taken many twists and turns, involved detours, and mountains. Now, I want to share what I’ve learned from my past experiences, enjoy the present, and look forward to what lies ahead- like when I’m hiking on a new trail, I just want to keep going to see what’s around the bend.
Happy trails…
