Wait to Worry…

In January I was fortunate to visit family in Washington- 5 sisters & my almost 98 year old Mother. I took a tumble while working on an organizing project ending up with a very sore lower back & bum. I promised my sister who witnessed the fall that I would get an x-ray when I got home. Due to the discomfort I was experiencing, I decided that I would get someone to assist me with lifting my carryon up/down on my flight home. Well, I’m glad I didn’t worry about how I was going to get it up/down because by the time I boarded there wasn’t room for anymore bags in the overhead area so my bag ended up getting checked.

It seems to be part of human nature to worry; however, 85% of our worries never happen. That statistic is thanks to research done at Cornell University. Actually, it gets better- of the 15% of our worries that come to fruition, 79% of the time, we handle those issues better than we thought we would; plus, we often learn something valuable in the process. Do the math, and you find that there was nothing to worry about 97 percent of the time.

I just received a message from my friend in Portugal regarding my plans for an upcoming visit in May. Bruno encouraged me, “About your trip. Don’t worry so much with that. Let’s enjoy.” I believe that’s good advice for living fully or as the characters in the Lion King sing, “Hakuna Matata- no worries for the rest of your days. It’s our problem-free philosophy.” That philosophy may not be realistic; however, we can practice…

“Carpe Diem” for the rest of our days…
